Rescue, Rehab, Retire: The Horses Behind Our Mission

The horse carrying you down the trail may have arrived at the ranch underweight, untrusting, and out of options. That’s not a detail we advertise on the sign out front — but it’s the heart of who we are.

Rescue

Horses come to us from a lot of places: owners who can no longer care for them, animals seized from neglect, and horses simply aging out of work with nowhere to go. When we get the call, we make room. Every rescue starts the same way — a quiet trailer ride to Poway and a full veterinary assessment.

Rehab

Rehabilitation is rarely fast. It’s weeks and months of careful feeding, farrier and veterinary care, and patient handling to rebuild trust. Some horses need to relearn that people can be gentle. Our team — and our volunteers — put in the unglamorous, everyday work that turns a frightened animal back into a confident one.

Along the way, something remarkable tends to happen: the horses become teachers. Many of the calm, sure-footed horses on our guided rides are former rescues. The trail is part of their therapy, and yours.

Retire

Not every horse returns to work, and that’s okay. For the ones who’ve earned it, the ranch is a place to grow old with dignity — good pasture, steady care, and company. Retirement here isn’t an afterthought. It’s a promise.

How you can help

Our Rescue, Rehab, Retire mission runs on community, not just passion. As a certified 501(c) nonprofit, every dollar goes directly to the care of these animals. You can:

  • Donate — one-time or monthly, fully tax-deductible.
  • Sponsor a horse — individual and corporate memberships that fund a specific animal’s care.
  • Come meet them — book a ride or a ranch stay and see the mission first-hand.

Learn more on our Give & Support page, or come out to the ranch and shake a few muzzles. They’ll be glad you did.
